During medical school, and into residency, passage of the
USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) steps, for allopathic students in training, and the
COMLEX-USA (Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination of the United States) for osteopaths are necessary to achieve licensure. In certain instances, osteopaths, in training, may choose to take both the
USMLE and the
COMLEX.
